When we think of getting into a flow, we think of athletes, artists, scientists and entrepreneurs… people constantly looking to enhance their focus, creativity, and productivity. Our company started because Chris wanted to heal his brain after a concussion. But we discovered that Lion's Mane was actually improving his brain function, not just healing it. He was more focused and in the zone, more often… or as we like to call it more periods of flow state.
Flow occurs when you are fully absorbed in an activity, experiencing energized focus, clarity, and control. In this state, you are fully focused on the task, enjoying yourself and feeling like time is standing still. It feels rewarding to be completely present in the moment.
"The flow state is achieved when a person's capacities are challenged by trying to meet a cherished goal. If the task is too easy, apathy and boredom can set in, but if the task is too difficult, anxiety can arise." – Positivepsychology.com

In this state, individuals experience complete concentration, lose self-consciousness, and feel enjoyment and purpose. Mindfulness is about being aware of the present moment. It focuses on being productive and engaged in difficult tasks. This is different from mindfulness.
Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi first talked about the concept. He said that when you are really focused, you can feel happy and clear. You know exactly what to do and get feedback quickly. –
But what exactly happens in the brain during flow, and how does it impact our productivity and well-being? How can natural supplements like Lion's Mane mushroom enhance this state?
During flow, the brain releases increased levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which boosts focus and suppresses sensations like hunger and fatigue. This is why people in flow often lose track of time and stay deeply engrossed in their activities without being distracted by physical needs. Dopamine affects our memory, mood, sleep, learning, concentration, and movement. It is also linked to feelings of motivation, pleasure, and reward.
A big part of the flow state is being tasked with something challenging, finding the balance between something that isn’t too easy or hard. The LC-NE system helps the brain regulate engagement and ensure that your attention can remain fixed on the task.
Researchers have proposed two main theories to explain what happens in the brain during flow:
Lion's Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) is a functional mushroom known for its cognitive-enhancing properties. It helps brain health by making nerve growth factor (NGF), which is important for growing and keeping neurons healthy. Here’s how Lion's Mane can help enhance the flow state:
Being in a flow state can be incredibly rewarding. It not only makes tasks more enjoyable but also boosts productivity and performance. Here are some key benefits:
While entering a flow state can sometimes happen unintentionally, there are strategies to help create the right conditions for flow:
Flow state, a concept rooted in positive psychology, is a powerful tool for enhancing productivity and well-being. Understanding the neuroscience behind flow, particularly the roles of dopamine and the LC-NE system, can help individuals harness this state more effectively. By creating the right conditions, employing strategies to minimize distractions, and incorporating natural supplements like Lion's Mane, anyone can tap into the benefits of flow and achieve greater focus, motivation, and satisfaction in their tasks.
